Strictly For Laffs (Unsold TV Pilot-1961)

Moe Howard-Dave Barry

The premise was simple. Host Dave Barry sat at a table with various comedians and they all told jokes. That’s it. Some were actors, some did stand up and others were writers There was some sort of audience that ringed the room. It was supposed to be a party atmosphere.

Some of the participants were Alan “Fred Flintstone” Reed, Moe Howard, Paul Gilbert, Rose Marie, Jessie White, Sid Melton and Mel Blanc.

Most of the jokes weren’t funny. The show was divided into segments where four comedians would be at the table with Dave Barry.

That’s it. Plans were to bring in non comics to do some jokes but the show never got that far. The only interesting thing was seeing Moe Howard in a suit and without his Three Stooges hairstyle.

About vintage45

I'm a big fan of vintage books, movies,TV shows and music. I encourage everyone to patronize your local used book/record store and pick up some of the good stuff. My posts are capsule reviews of some favorites that you may want to investigate. The albums posted aren't really reviews but items from my collection that are still available. I try and point out highlights of each one and let the music speak for itself. Thanks to all for checking out the blog.
