4 Star Revue (1950-53)

This was a vaudeville type variety show with revolving comedians as hosts. They were Jimmy Durante, Danny Thomas, Ed Wynn and Jack Carson. As more hosts were added the shows title changed to “All Star Revue.”

The May 16, 1951 episode feautured Jimmy Durante, Fred Allen, Eddie Jackson and Eddie Cantor. In a commercial you’ll see Abe Vigoda. Very entertaining show. If you want to see how the pros make hard work look easy check this out.

Jimmy starts it off with “Start Off Each Day With A Song.”  It’s a long song and dance number with a lot of comedy…..Next is a bit where Jimmy goes to a travel agency because he needs a vacation. He ends up in Bali. That segment starts with dancers and then Jimmy joining in.

Now it’s the Hotel Astor. Jimmy has to give up his room for a new tenent.  Al Norman, playing one of the movers, does a dance number to “Tea For Two.” Jimmy comes in and says he’s not giving up the room until midnight. The new tenent comes in. It’s Fred Allen. The two do a great routine and also sing “If You’ve Got Personality.”

Commercial time: It’s for Motorola TV. It involves a cab ride. The driver is Abe Vigoda. At the end he leaves and is replaced by Maxie The Taxi Driver (Eddie Cantor).

Next vacation stop is a cabin in the woods in Maine. Fred Allen gets there first. He says Jimmy doesn’t know it but his whole vacation will be broadcast live. It’s another funny bit.

It’s time for Club Durant. Jimmy introduces his old partner in Clayton, Jackson and Durante, Eddie Jackson. Instead Eddie Cantor comes out. He and Jimmy do a number called “Whatever You Want Is Yours” as they teach each other their routines.  Now Eddie Jackson comes out. He sings and dances to “Is It True What they Say About Dixie?”

A commercisal for Pet Milk and Jimmy closes the show.
