Erle Stanley Gardner-The Case Of The Velvet Claws (1933)

This is the one that started it all.  Perry Mason and Della Street are about to get married. Of course a case gets in the way. Eva Griffin gets caught with a fun loving Congressman. She doesn’t want her husband to find out so she’s ready to pay blackmailing sleazeballs to keep quiet. Perry thinks differently. As things progress, Perry may have a murder wrap against him.

This is a great start to the long running series. Those raised on the Raymond Burr TV series may not recognize Perry in the early books  since he’s a lot more hard boiled. Throughout the series Perry and Della remain close but both realize that Perry is not marriage material and even he admits that he’s too wrapped up in his work.

About vintage45

I'm a big fan of vintage books, movies,TV shows and music. I encourage everyone to patronize your local used book/record store and pick up some of the good stuff. My posts are capsule reviews of some favorites that you may want to investigate. The albums posted aren't really reviews but items from my collection that are still available. I try and point out highlights of each one and let the music speak for itself. Thanks to all for checking out the blog.
