Remembering Bix:A Memoir Of The Jazz Age-Ralph Berton & Nat Hentoff (2000)

Ralph is the brother of 20’s innovative Jazz drummer Vic Berton. Vic played with Bix in the Wolverines and also in the Paul Whiteman Orchestra. The book is based on stories Vic told Ralph about the early Jazz era and all about Bix Beiderbecke. This is a great read for those that want to know what it was like as Jazz started sweeping the land and the tragic story of Bix. The book also paints a very unflattering portrait of Paul Whiteman.

Nat Hentoff writes extensively about music and music history.

About vintage45

I'm a big fan of vintage books, movies,TV shows and music. I encourage everyone to patronize your local used book/record store and pick up some of the good stuff. My posts are capsule reviews of some favorites that you may want to investigate. The albums posted aren't really reviews but items from my collection that are still available. I try and point out highlights of each one and let the music speak for itself. Thanks to all for checking out the blog.
