Benny Goodman-On The Air 1937-1938 (Live)

Years ago when I began exploring Jazz from its roots through Swing, Bop and onward, this is an album I was told I must hear. I’m glad I did. Two CD’s with forty-nine tracks This is the Goodman band at the height of its power.

Personnel include, Harry James, Gene Krupa, Jess Stacy, Ziggy Elman, Lionel Hampton , Bud Freeman,Teddy Wilson and vocalist Martha Tilton.

Highlights from CD#1 include:”Ridin’ High”, “Nagasaki”, “Life Goes To A Party” and “Roll ‘Em.”

Highlights from CD#2 include:”King Porter Stomp”, “When Buddah Smiles”, “Minnie The Moocher’s Wedding Day” and “Caravan.”
