Star Trek (1966-69)

I’m not a Trekkie but I have watched each episode a number of times over the years. On its initial run it was a don’t miss series. Just thought I’d list my three favorite episodes:

“Where No Man Has Gone Before”- A magnetic storm at the edge of the galaxy. Two crew members aquire psionic powers. What’s Captain Kirk going to do about it? He has a choice. Maroon them or kill them.

“Tomorrow Is Yesterday”- The Enterprise is orbiting around Earth of the 1960’s. They beam an Air Force pilot aboard who has spotted them. They decide to keep him until they discover……

“Space Seed”-The awakening of Khan. He’s a genetic superman and wants to take over the Enterprise. Kirk can’t allow Khan’s crew to take over. It’s a fight to the finish….or at least until the movie comes out. “Star Trek II:The Wrath Of Khan” is my favorite Trek movie.

My least favorite’s were the two with Roger C. Carmel as Harry Mudd. I found them to be overbearing and Mudd to be a stupid character.

I tried watching “The Next Generation” but stopped before the end of season one. The characters portrayed by Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker), LeVar Burton (Lt.Commander Geordi La Forge) and Wil Wheaton ( Wesley Crusher) were so annoying that I couldn’t watch anymore.

I never tried “Deep Space Nine.” Being a Sarah Silverman fan I did check out her two part episode “Future’s End” on”Voyager” where she played Rain Robinson. I liked those episodes but never explored any further.

I did see the movies one through five but got burned out on the whole Trek thing. I will not see the 2009 recreation and wish they would leave the original characters alone. The TV show had a great cast. If you want to do Trek use some imagination and stop relying on where a lot of men and women went before.

Yeah, TNG first season is pretty terrible — it does get better! The last few years are divine 🙂 So is Deep Space Nine (again, besides the first season).
