This blog covers favorites in Jazz, R & B, Doo Wop, Pop,Nostalgia and some early Blues and Country-Western. I’m a fan of Edison Cylinders on up but don’t post Rock favorites because they just wouldn’t fit with the overall blog. Just for laughs I thought I would at least list some top favorites in the field. I’ll stick with 1995 (give or take a few years) on up. To list Classic Rock would contain the usual suspects and not really serve a purpose. I will mention that my favorite Rock band of all time is Pink Floyd. Aside from the Pink Floyd catalogue three essential albums from the era are: Old Loves Die Hard-Triumvrat (1976)…..Go w/Stomu Yamashta & Steve Winwood (1976)….S/T-Touch (1968).
Okay…now just for kicks, here are twenty-five bands that are never far from my CD player. I don’t list them in any kind of order or assign numbers to them since they are all favorites. There are a lot more but these are at the front of the pack. So for what it’s worth:
Persephone (The band with lead singer Sonja Kraushofer)…Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds…Epica…Nightwish…Krypteria…Suspyre…Anathema…Edenbridge…Type O Negative…Beyond The Bridge…Nox Arcana…Godspeed You!Black Emperor…Within Temptation…Porcupine Tree…Spock’s Beard…Symphony X…Blackmore’s Knight…Dead Can Dance…Raison D’Etre…Hooverphonic…Kamelot…Tangerine Dream…Love Is Colder Than Death…Mostly Autumn…Over The Rhine.
Favorite performer of all time:
From his debut “Closing Time” in 1973 to last year’s “Bad As Me”, he’s never struck a bad note. All of his albums are always close at hand.
Maybe it’s a curse to enjoy pop songs of the early 20th century through the Big Band Era into Jazz masters on to Rock bands etc. but I’ve been a music lover since my earliest memory of enjoying music as a two year old and it’s not uncommon in my house to hear Glenn Miller one hour and Ozzy Osbourne the next. Things can get interesting.
