Off The Record (1951 Local TV Show)

dumont television network

Art Lamb and Aletha Agee host this local fifteen minute Washington D.C. show where they lip synch to popular songs of the day. It ran on the Dumont Network.

The show opens with the two singing “She’s A Lady.” Art does a lame bit about looking behind the mask at Halloween. Aletha sings “I’m Bashful.”  Bert introduces a song about a man who comes home late. It starts with a sketch with Bert sneaking in the door while Aletha is asleep on the couch.  He goes into the kitchen and sings “Sparrow In The Treetop.” The wife is still upset but then the two sing “I Love You Truly.”

The two were actually lip synching to Perry Como and Betty Hutton with “She’s A Lady”,  Aletha lip synched to Mindy Carson with “I’m Bashful” then Art lip synched to Bill Lee with “Sparrow In The Treetop” and in the closing “I Love You Truly the two lip synched to  Jo Stafford and Nelson Eddy.

Many will find it dull but the best word to describe it all is sweet. Nothing wrong with that.

About vintage45

I'm a big fan of vintage books, movies,TV shows and music. I encourage everyone to patronize your local used book/record store and pick up some of the good stuff. My posts are capsule reviews of some favorites that you may want to investigate. The albums posted aren't really reviews but items from my collection that are still available. I try and point out highlights of each one and let the music speak for itself. Thanks to all for checking out the blog.
