Creature With The Atom Brain (1955)

If you like ’em so bad it’s good this is a must see. Curt Siodmak, best known for “Donovan’s Brain”, comes up with a live action comic book that is absolute fun because it’s so dumb…and keeps getting dumber.

Gangster Frank Buchanan is deported to Rome. He hooks up with German scientist Dr.William Steigg. No one know it but the two are now in America with a secret lab.

Gang boss Hennessey is putting away the nightly take. As he’s dictating the amount into a dictaphone a man crashes through his barred window. He tells Hennessey he’s Buchanan who swore he’d come back and get him. It’s Buchanan’s voice but it’s not him. Hennessey shoots him. Better come up with another plan. Too late. He’s picked up and his spine and neck are broken. The creature takes his time leaving as two of Hennessey’s boys pump bullets into him. The creature continues on his way.

In the lab Buchanan is giving it orders to get out of there. It’s all part of Steigg’s brain experiments. The creature has electrodes in its brain so Buchanan can tell it what to do. The two monitor the whole thing on a TV. They stole eight bodies from the morgue so they have plenty of creatures in stock. They’re easy to spot. They walk like zombies and speak with Buchanan’s voice.

Dr.Chet Walker (Richard Denning) finds glow in the dark fingerprints and blood. He takes a sample back to the lab. He tells his pal Captain Dave Harris that it’s not real blood. It’s a radioactive loaded chemical cocktail. Walker tells reporters the murder was committed by a creature with atom rays.

They’re not laughing when D.A.McGraw (Tristram Coffin) is killed the same way. Dave goes to Walker’s house to tell him about it. Walker’s seven year old daughter Penny knows him as Uncle Dave. Walker’s wife Joyce (Angela Stevens) also likes the big lug. Now Walker and the chief of police bring in three former associates of Buchanan and warn them. They want to put them in protective custody but that doesn’t go over so well. Walker asks an Air Force general to use his trucks and planes to track down the source of the radiation.

Another creature is sent out to take care of one of the three former associates. The newspapers are all over it now. The others decide jail may not be such a bad place after all.

I can’t spoil the fun to come. Don’t look for any kind of sense just enjoy the stupidity to come.
