Slow moving thriller with a few bright spots but not enough to keep things moving. It just plods along without any interesting characters.
Jason Streck works for his father’s defense procurement business in Silicon Valley. He’d rather the company do something else but he gives it his all. ADECT (Advanced Electronic Technologies) has the contract to make the robot tank (SEDAY) Self-Deploying Attack Vehicle.
While in Morocco, Jason was arrested during a revolution that overthrew the monarchy and put Mohammd Guelta in charge. He’s tortured and now walks with a cane. Jason is forced by Guelta to sign a “confession.” His father paid a ransom. When he arrived back home Jason’s father asked him why he let him down. That caused a huge rift between the two.
After a long time, Jason goes to his father’s ranch. Dad kept one of the tanks there. When Jason walked inside, he discovers his father has been shot to death. The barrel of the tank is warm.
During a demonstration is Saudi Arabia the tank fired live rounds at Saudi Air Force planes and brought them down killing all onboard. Has someone sabotaged the SEDAY?
There’s a subplot involving the Secretary of Defense and a teenage girl who isn’t what she seems to be.
Morocco wants to buy some of the tanks and a demonstration is set up during war games at Fort Irwin outside Las Vegas. Jason’s former captor is attending along with the President of The United States. Will the tank’s computer go haywire again?
Don’t be in a hurry to read this one. There are a lot better thrillers around than this.
